Programs, support, and care for older adults

Chicago Methodist Senior Services (CMSS) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization, providing care, services, and programs to older adults across Chicagoland. We work on the northside of Chicago, and in the northern and western suburbs to help older adults thrive.

Our Programs

On the northside of Chicago, we offer assisted living memory care in an intimate community at Hartwell Place. We also own and operate two affordable senior housing buildings in Andersonville that provide apartments to seniors who qualify as low-income.

Across the northside and in the northern suburbs, CMSS offers personalized home care to older adults on an hourly, overnight, or live-in basis. We also connect neighbors through a friendly visitor volunteer program, that engages older and younger adults in mutually beneficial, intergenerational friendships.

In the western suburbs, we provide engaging programming and nutritious meals for older adults at the West Suburban Senior Center. We also offer an LGBT+ program that brings LGBT+ older adults together for community and connection.

125 Years, and Counting

Since 1898, CMSS has provided care and services to tens of thousands of older adults and their families. Throughout our 125+ years, CMSS has adapted to meet the community’s needs. You can explore our history through photographs and archives here. We look forward to the next 125 years of service, care, and support to older adults.

The organization was founded by Alice Hartwell, a Methodist woman who was concerned for the care and well-being of elderly members of her congregation. While CMSS still bears the Methodist name, we are not affiliated with any religion. We proudly employ, serve, care for, and collaborate with individuals from every religious belief and background.
