#RespectYourElders: You may have heard of business mogul Elon Musk. His mother, Maye Musk, has also had a successful career, especially in recent years.
Musk has been a working model for the past 50 years, gracing covers of magazines like Time and Vogue. She’s also appeared in commercials for brands like Target and Clinique, and frequently walks runways across the world –– from New York City to Lake Como, Italy.
Some of Musk’s biggest accomplishments have been within the last five years. In 2013, she appeared in Beyonce’s music video, “Haunted.” In 2015, she signed with IMG Models, often regarded as one of the best modeling agencies in the world. And in September 2017, she became CoverGirl’s oldest spokesmodel at age 69.
Beyond her career as a successful model, Musk found the time to become a dietician and nutritionist with two master’s degrees. She’s also a grandmother of ten.
While Musk has been working as a model for decades, she recently told Vanity Fair, “I’ve never worked so much as I do now.”
Part of what makes Musk so unique is that she fully embraces her age. After spending many years as a blonde, Musk told the Daily Mail that at a certain point, she wanted to “see what’s underneath even if I never work again.” She let her natural white hair grow out, and actually got more work!
Musk also frequently posts about her personal life and career on her Instagram page (@mayemusk), which she said is “another way I can show people the many different sides of myself.”
And while the fashion industry is always changing, Musk is determined to keep working for years to come.
“I’ll continue working as long as people want to hire me,” Musk said. “I have no plans to retire. When I go to shoots, the young models are excited to see me. It proves they can have long and successful careers, too.”
