The Taste of Fall

The triple-digit weather has come to an end, and fall is upon us. Whether it’s apple-picking with the family or hanging up a festive wreath, autumn is the perfect inspiration for fun activities, new flavors, and creative ideas that you can do both at home and outdoors.

Get Creative

Arts and crafts are a great way to interact with family and friends. Try these simple activities to bring the warmth of fall indoors:

  • Hang a festive wreath
  • Light a fall-scented candle
  • Make a flower arrangement with your favorite autumn colors
  • Put a pumpkin on display; carve it if you’re brave
  • Press leaves
  • Bake your favorite pie
  • Make apple cider

Taste the Season

As the leaves begin to change, so do the flavors at various restaurants and coffee shops. Denny’s Restaurant has two seasonal desserts that serve as a perfect fall treat. Try their Carmel Apple Crisp, a delicious blend of crisp apples, vanilla ice cream, and caramel sauce, or give their tasty apple pie a try. In addition, Panera makes a great apple cider, and Starbucks is now selling their famous pumpkin spiced latte.

Go Outdoors

One of the best parts of fall is the weather because of the ideal temperature. When I was younger, autumn was my grandmother’s favorite season because we could engage in her favorite pastime – apple picking.  It’s a relaxing activity that allows you to spend time with loved ones and appreciate nature’s vibrant colors. If apples aren’t your fruit, go on a hayride or visit a pumpkin patch.  Here is a list of pumpkin patches near your area:

Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm
13341 W. 151st St., Homer Glen, IL, 60491

Goebberts Pumpkin Farm
40W Higgins Road, South Barrington, IL 60010

Sonny Acres Farm
29W310 North Avenue, West Chicago, IL 60185

Enjoy your fall!
